What Is the Intracept Procedure?
The Intracept Procedure is a minimally invasive treatment offered at The Spine Center for a specific type of chronic low back pain known as vertebrogenic pain. This pain originates from the vertebral endplates, the bony surfaces at the top and bottom of each spinal bone, where small nerve fibers transmit pain signals through the basivertebral nerve. Over time, degeneration or inflammation in these endplates can make the nerve overactive, producing constant pain that often feels deep, achy, and centered in the lower back. With the Intracept Procedure, Dr. Saqib Siddiqui can quiet the nerve, offering targeted relief when medication and other treatments have been unsuccessful. This approach requires only small incisions, allowing patients to return home and get back to their routine with minimal disruption. If you're tired of struggling with vertebrogenic pain and looking for a solution that may help you avoid back surgery, we invite you to schedule an appointment with Dr. Siddiqui at our offices in Houston, Austin, and Dallas, TX or Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL to find out if the Intracept Procedure can help you get back into your life more fully.
How Is the Intracept Procedure Performed?
While the Intracept Procedure at The Spine Center is less invasive than open surgery, it's still performed with general anesthesia to eliminate discomfort during the treatment. Once you're sedated, Dr. Siddiqui will create a small opening in the lower back. Using fluoroscopic imaging, he'll insert a specialized cannula (a hollow medical tube) into the affected vertebra, creating a channel directly to the nerve. From there, he'll insert a tiny radiofrequency probe to deliver controlled heat, deactivating the nerve without compromising muscle control, movement, or stability around the spine. He'll then remove the tools and close the incision.
What Are the Benefits of the Intracept Procedure?
The Intracept Procedure has quickly emerged as a reliable solution for individuals suffering from chronic vertebrogenic pain, offering an effective alternative to spinal surgery for eligible candidates. The benefits of this minimally invasive spinal treatment include:
- Provides long-lasting relief by turning off the nerve that carries pain signals from the vertebrae
- Offers a precise approach with minimal disruption to the surrounding tissue
- Preserves normal spinal anatomy, with no implants, hardware, or fusion
- Reduces reliance on ongoing pain medications, injections, or other treatments
- Gives patients another option before considering more invasive surgeries like fusion
The Spine Center Reviews
Before I saw Dr. Siddiqui, I was almost at maximum pain medication. I was homebound most of the time the last 2 years. I spent a lot of my time in bed because lying down offered some relief from pain. My quality of life was gone. I had already tried injections, burning of nerves and physical therapy. Nothing helped. I was in dire need of surgery. My doctor reffered me to Dr. Siddiqui. What a Godsend he was! I had a Lumbar Laminectomy done. It was a day of surgery here at surgery center , I woke up from surgery pain free!! After years of deliberating pain, I thought nothing would help me. Boy, I was wrong! Dr. Siddiqui is very caring and professional. I was walking again, I got my life back. I also had to have neck surgery, which he performed about 6 weeks later. I am getting out in the world and enjoying life again! I thought I would never see this day. Thank you Dr. Siddiqui!

My hunt for a great spine and back doctor is over! I was referred to Dr. Siddiqui for a spinal fusion procedure. They took care of me from beginning to end. True service!

Target Lower Back Pain at the Source
Unlike pain caused by discs, joints, or muscles, vertebrogenic pain is tied directly to the nerve pathways in the spine, and it often persists even after other nonsurgical treatments such as medications, therapy, or injections have failed. In these cases, the Intracept Procedure may be the solution you need to move forward with comfort and confidence. Learn more about how the Intracept Procedure works and whether you're a candidate by scheduling a comprehensive spinal consultation with Dr. Siddiqui at The Spine Center in Texas and Florida.
