Percutaneous Screw Fixation in Houston, TX

Percutaneous screw fixation is a minimally invasive technique often performed at The Spine Center for patients who need more support and stability in the spine when other approaches have failed. Instead of making a large incision down the back, percutaneous pedicle screw placement involves a combination of small incisions and fluoroscopic imaging to insert screws into the bony structures that connect the vertebrae (called the pedicles). These screws are then connected with sturdy rods to create a secure internal brace for the spine. At The Spine Center, Dr. Saqib Siddiqui offers percutaneous screw fixation for patients looking for reliable stabilization without the stress of open surgery, helping them get back into their routine with less trauma and recovery time. If you're exploring your options for spine surgery, we invite you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Siddiqui at our offices throughout Houston, Dallas, and Austin, TX or Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL to learn if you're a good candidate for minimally invasive percutaneous screw fixation.

To start your procedure, Dr. Siddiqui will make small incisions along the back. Using fluoroscopic x-rays to guide him, he'll gently insert a Jamshidi needle through the pedicle to create a channel for guidewires to be placed around the spine. He'll then use specialized dilating instruments to create thin channels down to the bone without cutting through large sections of muscle. Once screws have been placed over the guidewires and secured, connecting rods will be inserted and locked, creating a stable construct that supports the spine.

Spinal instability from fractures or slipping vertebrae can make it difficult to trust your own body. Percutaneous screw fixation restores that stability with carefully placed implants, all through small incisions that preserve muscle and surrounding tissue. The benefits of this minimally invasive spine surgery performed at The Spine Center include:

  • Restores stability to injured or weakened vertebrae, making movement safer
  • Lowers the risk of complications through precise, imaging-guided placement
  • Reduces muscle damage, blood loss, and scarring compared to open surgery
  • Promotes proper spinal alignment, which supports long-term comfort and function
  • Offers a tailored solution that can address complex spinal problems when needed

Before I saw Dr. Siddiqui, I was almost at maximum pain medication. I was homebound most of the time the last 2 years. I spent a lot of my time in bed because lying down offered some relief from pain. My quality of life was gone. I had already tried injections, burning of nerves and physical therapy. Nothing helped. I was in dire need of surgery. My doctor reffered me to Dr. Siddiqui. What a Godsend he was! I had a Lumbar Laminectomy done. It was a day of surgery here at surgery center , I woke up from surgery pain free!! After years of deliberating pain, I thought nothing would help me. Boy, I was wrong! Dr. Siddiqui is very caring and professional. I was walking again, I got my life back. I also had to have neck surgery, which he performed about 6 weeks later. I am getting out in the world and enjoying life again! I thought I would never see this day. Thank you Dr. Siddiqui!
