How Is Percutaneous Screw Fixation Performed?
To start your procedure, Dr. Siddiqui will make small incisions along the back. Using fluoroscopic x-rays to guide him, he'll gently insert a Jamshidi needle through the pedicle to create a channel for guidewires to be placed around the spine. He'll then use specialized dilating instruments to create thin channels down to the bone without cutting through large sections of muscle. Once screws have been placed over the guidewires and secured, connecting rods will be inserted and locked, creating a stable construct that supports the spine.
