What Are SI Joint Injections?
The sacroiliac (SI) joints are located at the very base of the spine, linking the sacrum to the pelvis. Although they don't move as much as other joints in the body, they are constantly stressed from standing, walking, climbing stairs, and even sitting. Over time or following injury, they can become inflamed and irritated. At The Spine Center, Dr. Saqib Siddiqui uses SI joint injections both as a diagnostic tool (to identify whether the SI joint is the cause of lower body pain) and a treatment option (to reduce inflammation inside the joint itself). If a patient's pain improves after an injection, it strongly suggests that the SI joint is responsible. At the same time, the steroid medication placed into the joint can reduce swelling and irritation, offering meaningful relief. If you're struggling with persistent lower back, buttock, or hip pain that hasn't responded to more general treatments, SI joint injections may be the turning point in your care. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Siddiqui at our practice locations in Houston, Dallas, or Austin, TX or Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL to learn more about how we diagnose and treat back pain.
How Are SI Joint Injections Performed?
Dr. Siddiqui will start by having you lie comfortably on a treatment table before sterilizing the injection site and administering local anesthetic to numb the area. Using state-of-the-art fluoroscopic imaging to guide his approach, he'll carefully insert a needle into the SI joint to deliver a solution of numbing medicine and corticosteroid. The numbing medication provides immediate relief if the SI joint is the true pain source, while the steroid works over the following days to calm inflammation for a longer-term effect. After the injection, he'll remove the needle and bandage the site.
What Are the Benefits of SI Joint Injections?
SI joint injections give patients both answers and relief. They confirm whether the joint is responsible for ongoing pain and, when it is, they provide targeted treatment that calms inflammation. The benefits of SI joint injections at The Spine Center include:
- Relieves pain in the lower back, buttocks, or hip that limits daily activity
- Reduces inflammation directly inside the SI joint
- Improves comfort when standing, sitting, walking, or climbing stairs
- Helps patients sleep and rest more easily
- Provides diagnostic clarity by confirming whether the SI joint is the true source of pain
The Spine Center Reviews
Before I saw Dr. Siddiqui, I was almost at maximum pain medication. I was homebound most of the time the last 2 years. I spent a lot of my time in bed because lying down offered some relief from pain. My quality of life was gone. I had already tried injections, burning of nerves and physical therapy. Nothing helped. I was in dire need of surgery. My doctor reffered me to Dr. Siddiqui. What a Godsend he was! I had a Lumbar Laminectomy done. It was a day of surgery here at surgery center , I woke up from surgery pain free!! After years of deliberating pain, I thought nothing would help me. Boy, I was wrong! Dr. Siddiqui is very caring and professional. I was walking again, I got my life back. I also had to have neck surgery, which he performed about 6 weeks later. I am getting out in the world and enjoying life again! I thought I would never see this day. Thank you Dr. Siddiqui!
