How Is SI Joint Fusion Performed?
During the procedure, Dr. Drab makes a small incision along the side of the buttock to access the SI joint. Using fluoroscopic imaging for accuracy, specialized instruments are guided to the joint space. A series of triangular titanium implants from the iFuse system are then placed across the sacrum and ilium. Their unique shape provides immediate stability and helps the bones grow together over time to form a solid fusion. Because the approach is minimally invasive, the entire procedure is completed without significant disruption of muscles or surrounding tissue.
