Rhizotomy gives patients a practical and effective way to manage spinal joint pain when other treatments fall short. By interrupting pain signals at their source, this groundbreaking procedure reduces discomfort and makes movement less of a challenge. At The Spine Center, rhizotomy is performed with precision to help patients regain comfort and function. Discover the benefits of our minimally invasive approach for yourself by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Siddiqui at our offices in Texas or Florida.
What Is Radio Frequency Rhizotomy?
Rhizotomy (also known as radiofrequency nerve ablation) is a nonsurgical procedure that relieves chronic spinal pain by disabling the small sensory nerves responsible for carrying pain signals from the cervical, lumbar, or sacroiliac (SI) joints in the spine. Because these nerves do not control strength or movement, stopping their activity does not affect stability or function — it simply quiets the pain pathway, allowing patients to get back to their lives without the constant frustration of discomfort or limited mobility. Rhizotomy is offered at The Spine Center as a targeted approach for these issues. Using advanced radiofrequency (RF) technology, Dr. Saqib Siddiqui can minimize or eliminate nerve-related spine pain without invasive surgery. Find out how our practice combines technical expertise with state-of-the-art technology by scheduling a consultation at The Spine Center at one of our many locations, including Houston, Dallas, and Austin, TX or Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, FL today.
How Is Radio Frequency Rhizotomy Performed?
Before starting your radiofrequency ablation procedure, Dr. Siddiqui will sterilize the skin over the treatment area and inject the site with local anesthetic. Once you're ready, he'll carefully guide a thin RF needle into the affected cervical, lumbar, or SI joint, using fluoroscopic equipment to get a clear view as he proceeds. The tip of the probe delivers controlled RF energy, disrupting the nerve's ability to carry pain signals to the brain. Each of the affected nerves will be treated for several seconds to ensure effective results.
What Are the Benefits of Radio Frequency Rhizotomy?
Rhizotomy can offer a range of improvements for patients whose daily lives are disrupted by chronic joint-related spinal pain. By addressing the nerve pathways directly, the procedure provides relief that often lasts longer than injections alone. The benefits of rhizotomy at The Spine Center include:
- Relieve chronic pain in the neck, lower back, or sacroiliac region
- Restore comfort with bending, twisting, standing, or walking
- Improve range of motion by reducing joint stiffness
- Support better sleep and daily activity with less discomfort
- Reduce the need for ongoing pain medications or repeated injections
- Provide relief that can last many months
Radio Frequency Rhizotomy Reviews
The Spine Center has provided a level of care, compassion, and professionalism that is truly rare these days. I have been fortunate to be under the care of Dr. Siddiqui, Kayla, and previously, Rose—and every single step of my journey has been met with grace, patience, and true support.Dr. Siddiqui is an expert in his field—his experience and precision are immediately clear—but what truly stands out is his careful and methodical approach. He doesn’t rush into invasive procedures or offer quick fixes. Instead, he thoroughly evaluates everything: scans, history, pain level, and all possible underlying issues before making any decisions about treatment. That thoughtful, layered approach made me feel truly seen and safe as a patient. When my first rhizotomy didn’t provide the relief we hoped for due to the severity of my spinal injuries, Dr. Siddiqui made time to see me for a last-minute emergency appointment. He reassessed everything with a calm confidence that gave me peace of mind. I eventually had two rhizotomies—bilateral cervical and bilateral lower lumbar—and both were handled with such steady, gentle care that I never once felt afraid or tense. I was able to complete both procedures without even flinching.Kayla, the office manager, is the heart of this place. She goes above and beyond every single time. She’s deeply thoughtful, incredibly organized, and somehow still manages to make every patient feel like they’re her top priority—even while juggling a million things. There were moments when her kindness and encouragement were exactly what I needed to carry me through emotionally and mentally. And even though Rose is no longer there, I still want to thank her—because she and Kayla were both such a light to me during the most difficult parts of this journey. This team doesn’t just treat your condition—they care for the whole person. They’ll literally hold your hand if you need it, step away from their posts to comfort you, and check in just to make sure you’re okay. My husband and I are both so grateful for everything they’ve done. We felt supported every step of the way, and it made all the difference. If you’re looking for a spine care team that is not only medically excellent but also deeply compassionate and human, I can’t recommend The Spine Center enough. They gave me relief, hope, and comfort during one of the hardest times in my life. Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart.
